Well, that didn’t take long. Curt Slyder, writing for the Journal & Courier, has an article entitled “Area’s Major Moves funding dries up“. After getting money from the Major Moves statewide fund in 2006 and 2007, as did all counties, to help with road paving expenses, Tippecanoe County will not be getting money from the fund in 2008.
The article doesn’t indicate whether termination of the Major Moves money was planned after two years or whether it was a matter of the money running low unexpectedly. Either way it seems like poor planning for the money by the State. The Toll Road was sold leased for 75 years. Seems to me that the State’s allocation of the money should have had similarly long time horizons.
I thought most of the money was going to state roads anyway.
The bulk of the money goes to the state for state projects. But legislators made $150 million available for locals in two $75 million payouts. It was only for two years. There was never any promise for more – unless of course you were a toll road county. Those counties along the toll road got a huge one-time payout at the beginning.
Another non-story story. County “A” was given “X” dollars to fix their roads. They did.
The money is spent.
Mitch Daniels is the Gov…just get the hell over it already….sheesh….
Actually, this is all a small part of my master plan to isolate West Lafayette from the rest of Indiana, permanently. I do feel just a wee bit contrite about including Lafayette and western Tippecanoe County inadvertently. But, the overall goal surely must outweigh any minor collateral inconveniences.
Plus, the money is really going to projects along US41 south of Vermilion County. And they thank you.

Also, Bartholomew county thanks all of the toll road travelers for the next 74 years for their donation to our highways near Columbus.
We even got a new bridge! You should drive on it sometime, since you and your kids are paying for it.
You’re welcome!
If I remember correctly a huge sum of that sale/lease money is earmarked for the I-69 extension between Indy and Evansville.
