Just a little self-promotion here. I have a guest column running in today’s Fort Wayne Journal Gazette – sort of a “dispelling myths about the General Assembly” premise. Not exactly hard hitting, but it was fun to do.

Don’t sell it short, Doug. Very few people know about the Legislative Services, and they myth about a requirement to pass a budget is about as well established a one as there is regarding our state government. Good stuff!
Thanks Mike!
As a kid, I alternated between wanting to be a lawyer and wanting to be Mike Royko.
I had to look up Parkinson’s Law of Triviality, and find it applies exactly to things I have experienced (so it must be true!). Questions about an organization’s financial statement. Amending by-laws. Etc. I think, though, it crosses peoples’ minds that they should bring these things up, and they know others have the same questions they do. So, is it a dread of admitting ignorance, or an abhorrence to spending the time it would take to slog through the issue?
Good job and congratulations, Doug!
Once again, your number 1 is a characature of what you believe the other side to believe.
The problem with the legislative process is that the feedback loop is so weak, in contrast to the market system. In markets, bad products are punished rather quickly. How does the legislative process respond to bad legislation?
This is why I am so skeptical of governmental action in general. I don’t see robust mechanisms that could lead to good legislation, regulation, etc. Quite the contrary.
I enjoyed your guest column in the JG on Sunday. It was even good enough to put up on the bulletin board at work.

Thanks!
Good job, Doug.
Good piece, Doug. I’ll pass a link along to my friend who works in the catacombs under the statehouse.
