Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman tells us to expect some “zingers” from Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin during her visit to the Verizon Center. At this point, I desperately want to make a lame “Zinger” versus “Ho Ho” joke, but I’ve got nothing.
To help pump up the crowd, Palin will be joined by country music singer Aaron Tippin, who has sung his “Drill Here, Drill Now” anthem to oil exploration at other Palin rallies.
That’s what I like about Gov. Palin: the substance, gravitas, and, frankly, seriousness she brings to the ticket.
Gov. Daniels has (probably wisely) chosen not to attend.
Mr. Tippin isn’t singing that song while standing next to Governor Palin, is he?
I’d be surprised if the adult entertainment industry had not already produced a video with that title.
There’s your zinger, Doug.
I hope that everyone recalls the Palin choice in future elections. It points out the harm that the popular – mostly Republican – disparagement for government engenders. If one does not think there is any proper role for government then no care is taken in choices for elective or appointive offices. We have seen this in a number of Bush choices (“great job Brownie”). The current problems largely grow out of choices made by people who do not care about the quality of government because they confuse the need to control and improve government with the need for government at all. Oh what a difference a believer in the nobility of civil service would have made in the last 8 years. Al Gore, we really missed out.
A woman from our billing department is making the drive north to see Sarah. She just loves her. She hopes Sarah can “turn their campaign around” and be victorious, and was trying to come up with some advice to tell her.
I said, “Tell her to just be herself. Please.”
She agreed that was good advice, because the Republicans she knows just love Sarah. I told her nothing could make the Right OR the Left more thrilled than if Sarah just keeps being Sarah.
A uniter!
Easy boys, your dislike for those “common folk” is shining through again.
I like country music.
Palin might have been a cynical choice, but she has excited a lot of people, and I am constantly assured that she is far more experienced with regard to politics and government than Obama.
lemming: “she is far more experienced with regard to politics and government than Obama.” She is?! Let’s look at the facts. She has been the Alaskan governor for 2 years and before that held office in the Wasilla town government. He was a State Senator in Illinois for 8 years and has spent 3 years as a U.S. Senator. I would venture his experience as a community organizer (attorney) counts in the area of politics, also.
Common folks, ya I’m one of those, and I think Palin is a moron.
She’s crooked as a dog’s hind leg and thinks Foreign Policy is something you get by seeing Russia from your house.
Sorry, Palin is what she is, a blatent attempt to pander to women and the 26% of America that still indentifies itself as Republican. Too bad you can’t win an election with 25% of the vote.
Anticipated zinger: When asked if she were willing to work with Warren Buffet going forward to address the economic situation, even though Mr. Buffet has endorsed Senator Obama, Sarah Palin replied she would absolutely enjoy the opportunity to meet him and hear his ideas, and that Margaritaville is one of her favorite songs.
I’ve eaten my share of Dolly Madison Zingers because they were cheaper than the Ho Hos growing up; I figure that’s plenty common. I came out of Richmond High School’s “drop out factory” and attended public colleges in Ohio and Indiana. I’ve probably drunk more Natural Light than any two of the readers here combined. And, as my boy can attest, I still think poop jokes are funny. I’m “common” enough, thanks.
Still, I don’t figure “common” is synonymous with celebrating ignorance.
RE: Zingers vs. Ho Hos
Sometimes the big-name brand IS the way to go.
True that.
She’s bringing Zingers for the Ding Dongs.
I’m just enjoying the tuneful Aaron Tippin discussing his energy policy, in song. Drill Here! Drill Now!
Funny looking guy, that Tippin. Close-cropped gray hair and a bold, black mustache. I’m thinking this is what Freddie Mercury would have looked like if he lived to become older and heavier.
Now they’re playing some John Fogerty. Is “Fortunate Son” Fogerty a GOPer?
Wow, this rally SUCKS! Now they’re all waving their arms, listening to piped-in Neil Diamond. They have 25,000 people there ready to receive the message, and they’re having this much downtime? Aren’t there any B-listers they could have out there? I guess when the Republican governor’s too busy to stop by, that leaves a bit of a hole. Where’s Pence? Sodrel? Anyone?
Yay! The $42k lie!
ACORN!
Demanding the Obama campaign immediately release it’s communications with ACORN, in fairness to the American voter.
“We believe in the flag.”
What an awesome blizzard of platitudes.
Apparently you have not been watching the late night comedians-there is a movie in the making called “Nailin’ Palin.” No kidding!
As Leno said, “That’s much better tahn the one called ‘Ridin’ Biden.”
Palin brings seriousness to the campaign? Give me a break. She has nothing more than a cult following. Republicans can’t send her out on her own because she has no experience, oh but wait, I guess shooting moose and shooting bull ARE attributes of a politician.
Tom says:

Tom, I never said that I agree with this point of view. In fact, I think it is dangerously wrong. I do think that it’s an example of how effectively the Republican Party has packaged Palin. Mayor of a town of 7, 000? Miles Brand has more bureaucratic experience.
P.S. Where’s John Hoffstadder (spelling?) when you need him?
lemmig: as Rosanna Rosanna Danna would say….uhhhh…never mind :)
First, it would have been Roseanne Roseannadanna you were thinking of, and second you are mistaking the quote which was actually Emily Litella’s signature line.
Kids today. No culture or sense of history.
Now now, children, children…
