The House has passed SB 153 out of committee. It allows an exemption to the child work permit laws for kids as young as 12 working as a youth athletic program referee, umpire, or official.
The kid has to be certified by a national organization, has to be officiating for younger kids, and either have permission of a parent on file or have the parent on site.

I would like to see them do something with all those kids who are supposed to be “home schooled” but who are otherwise employed or just taken out of school because the parents have a beef with the district, so they say that the child is being “home schooled”. The governor made a big deal about taking responsibility for the general fund a couple of years ago, which means that the legislature confirmed that the state, not the local schools, is responsible for education. Now lets makes sure kids who are supposed to be home schooled are being schooled.
